(Bernama) -- The government was today urged to form a cyber police unit to maintain surveillance over the acivities of bloggers.
Federal Territory Umno youth head, Datuk Paduka Norza Zakaria said the Internal Security; Energy, Water and Communications; Science, Technology and Innovation; and Information Ministries should also take immediate action on the matter.
"The government should take firm action against the irresponsible bloggers according to existing law," Norza said in a statement representing Umno youth at state levels.
The statement was issued following a police report made by Umno on July 23 against the owner and operator of "Malaysia Today", Raja Petra Kamarudin, for publishing sensitive comments on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's position and on racist issues through the blog's website on July 11 2007.
Norza said according to section 121 (B) and Section 123 of the Penal Code, Section 4 of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 263 and 266 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, being a publisher, Raja Petra Kamarudin was responsible for providing clear warning to every person who gives comments that they were responsible for their comments.
He said Umno Youth wanted stern action to be taken against Raja Petra including under the Internal Security Act (ISA) for failing to carry out his responsibilities.
Norza also asked the mainstream media not to publish unconfirmed information from websites.
